When all goes well, the "voice" of your heart has a slow,
rhythmic beat. Do you know what to do in the case of a heart attack? Though
sometimes heart attack occurs suddenly and without any warning symptoms,
usually your body will send signals for you to take action. It is imperative
that not to miss a minute to seek medical help. If it comes to a heart attack,
you could save your life.
George felt a sensational swelling of his ankles and feet, but blamed
it on "the season of that period". A fluid buildup nausea and lack of
appetite were all part of his problem. He did not react until it reached
palpitations and chest pain. Later, while recovering in the hospital, he
berated himself for not having realized before it was a heart attack.
Many people like George did not realize what is going on; ignore the
symptoms and risk of acting too fast. Cardiovascular problems and stroke or
heart attack is the leading cause of death in the many countries of the world,
so, you should know very clear what the warning signs are:
Pain or discomfort
in the center of the chest:
ü
It feels like
pressure or mild pain, fullness or compression in the center of the chest that
lasts a few minutes. The discomfort may be intermittent.
Pain or discomfort
in other areas of the upper body, such as arms, neck, back, jaw or stomach:
ü
You can experience
this kind of discomfort without necessarily feel chest pain.
Shortness of
breath:
The pain often occurs before chest discomfort arises.
Stomach pain:
ü
The pain may spread
to the abdomen and can even be mistaken for heartburn.
Sweating:
ü
You suddenly start
to sweat and your skin feels cold and clammy.
Nausea and / or
vomiting:
ü
You suddenly have
the urge to vomit and feels tired.
Anxiety:
ü
You begin to feel
overwhelmed, as if you are suffering from a panic attack for no apparent
reason.
Dizziness:
ü
You will begin to
feel fatigue or feeling of being about to faint.
Although, symptoms vary from person to person; some experience only
mild discomfort, others intense pain.
Having a single symptom does not
necessarily mean that you have a heart attack, but if repeated or experience
more than twice at a time, get help immediately, especially if you have other
risk factors such as hypertension (high blood pressure), diabetes, or prior
history of cardiovascular problems. Do not hesitate to visit your doctor immediately
if the symptoms persist.
Remember this
ailment does not discriminate.
Do not think that because you are a woman and that women have less
chance of having a heart attack. Women account for nearly half of all deaths
from heart attack, so do not trust anyone who tells you that heart attack is
not prevalent in women. Anyone can be a victim.
Although the unmistakable symptoms of a heart attack for both men and
women, is the pain or discomfort in the center of the chest, women tend to have
other symptoms more often than men, such as fatigue, nausea, shortness of
breath and pain in the jaw or back. Most women complain that their backs hurt when
they make a wrong move, or feel like vomiting and nausea from something they
ate and not treat these symptoms with the seriousness they deserve.
Act without delay!
The faster you ask for help, that is consulting a medical personnel, the
better chance of survival your survival. Do not wait more than five minutes to
call if you suspect you are having a heart attack.
