LOW BLOOD PRESSURE: SYMPTOMS CAUSES AND TREATMENT





Suffering a sudden drop in blood pressure can seriously threaten your life.
You've probably heard frequently about high blood pressure [High BP] and the risks for heart health. However, blood pressure may also be lowered. This is known as hypo-tension. Here we tell you what are the symptoms, causes and who it can happen to.


Have you ever had blood pressure measured once? If so, you know that in each reading you must consider two issues: the first and the highest is the one that indicates the systolic pressure, ie, the body's arteries when the heart beats and fills them with blood. The second number, which is smaller, measures diastolic pressure, or the pressure of the body's arteries when the heart pauses between each beat. The average normal blood pressure is 120/80, but it happens sometimes, plus ride - high blood pressure - the pressure may also be lowered to levels that are not normal – this is known as hypo-tension or low blood pressure as most people refer to it.

Although blood pressure varies from person to person, it is considered that when the reading is 90/60, you have to pay very good attention. Why? Although in many cases low blood pressure occur when you're dehydrated.  In other cases, you may have symptoms that go unnoticed and you need to take action. In addition, low blood pressure may be a sign of other serious conditions such as heart disease, endocrine problems (endocrine) or neurological disorders, especially in older people.

Common symptoms of low blood pressure:
·         Dizziness
·         Fainting
·         Blurry vision
·         Fast breathing
·         Difficulty in concentrating
·         Thirst

When low blood pressure is severe, it can cause the oxygen and nutrients that carries blood not to reach vital organs, which can cause serious damage to your heart and your brain. Also, if you lower the pressure and you faint, you can hurt as a result of the fall.

What are some of the causes of low blood pressure? First, we must clarify that low blood pressure can be constant in some people, while in others, it can happen suddenly. If it is as a result of the first case, the causes, although they are not always clear, may be related to:

·         Cardiac arrhythmia
·         Heart failure
·         Overdose of medication for hypertension or high blood pressure
·         Heat exhaustion
·         Pregnancy
·         Diabetes and hypoglycemia
·         Hormonal problems
·         Side effects of medicines sold over the counter, including supplements or herbs
·         Liver Problems

These are some of the causes:
·         A reaction to a drug or alcohol
·         Blood loss due to bleeding
·         Severe blood infection or sepsis
·         High or low body temperature
·         Severe dehydration due to vomiting, diarrhea or fever
·         A severe allergic reaction (can cause death) known as anaphylaxis

You may have never experienced a drop in blood pressure, but this does not mean you're safe. Hypotension can happen to anyone, although it is true that there are risk factors.

Some Risk Factors of Low Blood Pressure:
·         Age, for example, is one of them. In adults over 65, it can happen after eating. In other cases, it affects children and young adults, due to a breakdown in communication between the brain and heart.
·         Another risk factor is certain medications, such as those for high blood pressure.
·         Also, having diseases such as Parkinson's, diabetes and heart predisposes to suffer from low blood pressure.

Before one embark on treatment of any disease, it worthy to know the root cause of the disease.
So, in low blood pressure, treatment depends on the cause. Your doctor may recommend one or all of the following:

·         Eat small portions of carbohydrates throughout the day.
·         If you are ask to increase your sodium intake, please do take it with caution.
·         Drink plenty of water and little alcohol to prevent dehydration.

If you have never or do not experience symptoms of low blood pressure, it is not a problem. You can just call the doctor to know if there is any sign so you could take action.
Lastly, do not forget that too low a pressure in your arteries as too high a pressure also represents a threat to your health.
